Lower School

Pre-K3, Pre-K4

Children logged onto ABCYA.com and played the game called ‘Birthday Candle Count’ in the Math section. They need to light each candle and count them. Then they have to find the number that corresponds with the candles. This helps students to use the mouse and also check their number sense.
                                                                    
Kindergarten

Children are practicing keyboarding to get ready for First Grade. They used a game called ‘Ghost Typing Jr.’ on ABCYA.com.                                                                 

Grade 1

Children are practicing keyboarding. They used a fun game called ‘Ghost Typing Jr.’ on ABCYA.com.

Children are practicing keyboarding. They could choose from nine games on ABCYA.com.

 
 


Grade 3

The children tried animation using a game on ABCYA.com, under the ‘Skills’ section, called ‘ANIMATE’. They drew an original picture and animated it.
                                                                 
Grade 4

The children tried animation using a game on ABCYA.com, under the ‘Skills’ section, called ‘ANIMATE’. They drew an original picture and animated it. This activity introduces them to a technology term in a fun way.

Upper School   

Grades 5-7*

*Note: 8th grade finished school last week.

The children wrote a newspaper article of their choice. They learned to use columns, using a template. They thought of an original name for their newspaper.

Lower School 

Pre-K3, Pre-K4

Children logged onto ABCYA.com and played the Donut game in the Skills section, showing different shapes. This game helps them to use the mouse to drag and differentiate between shapes.

Grade 1

Children are writing a note to Kindergarten to encourage them about going into the first grade.

Grade 2

The children are writing a letter to the first grade, telling them not to worry about going into second grade. They offer favorite activities done this year.

Grade 3

The children wrote a letter to the second grade to help them not to worry about going into the third grade. They offer advice.

Grade 4

The children wrote letters to the third grade to help them feel good about going into the fourth grade. They mention their favorite things that they did this year.


Upper School   

Grades 5-8   

Children learned about viewing something from another person's point of view by writing letters to the grades below them, encouraging them to enjoy their new grade.

Children used the IPads this week.  They played games from Lego, for example, a bakery game where they have to imitate the treat and create one just like it. 

Kindergarten

Children used the IPads this week. They played alphabet games where they put the letters in alphabetical order.   

 Grade 1

The children got to use the IPads this week. They played games from Lego, for example, riding the train and playing the part of the conductor.

Grade 2

The children got to use the IPads this week. They played games from Lego, for example, riding the train and playing the part of the conductor.

No computer class for Grade 3 this week. We have a half day on Friday because of Memorial Day.    

Grade 4

No computer class for Grade 4 this week. We have a half day on Friday because of the Memorial Day weekend.                                            


Upper School   

Grades 5-8   

The Upper School will continue presenting their PowerPoint presentations, as last week we had to go to Mass for Ascension Thursday. This is Part Three of their Dream Vacation project. Students can learn from other students. Also, they may talk about their peer’s presentation, in a respectful way,            

If we have time we will go to Google and Amazon.com and choose 6 books we would like to read over the summer.

Lower School 

Pre-K3, Pre-K4

Children went to ABCYA.com and played a game under “Preschool math games’, called ‘Fuzz bugs: counting, sorting and comparing’. It’s a fun game where the children sort the fuzzbugs by their color.

Kindergarten

The children are practicing keyboarding so they will be ready for next year. We went onto Keyboarding Zoo, on ABCYA.com. In this game, you type the letter by the actual letter or by the sound of the letter. The animals make it a fun way to learn the keyboard.
                                               
Grade 1

The children went to Google, and to Amazon.com. They clicked on their age. They looked for 3 books that they would like to read over the summer. Then they copied and pasted the books to Word pad.     

Grade 2

The children went on Google and then went to Amazon.com to choose 6 books that they would like to read over the summer.
                                                                                                          
Grade 3

The children went on Google and then went to Amazon.com to choose 6 books that they would like to read this summer.

Grade 4

The children went on Google and then went to Amazon.com to choose 6 books that they would like to read this summer.

The Children learned about Internet Safety by watching a short video on Brain pop, jr. Then they took an easy quiz and a then a hard quiz.

I am telling the fourth graders about the crowning of Mary. I will read a short story called “Love Forever” and ask them questions about the story. Then they will key in the Hail Mary prayer. After that, they may go to the Internet to find a nice picture of Mary to copy and paste with their prayer.

We will start the Internet Safety series on Cyberbullying from Netsmartz. We will see a short video of a girl who told too much online and went to meet a stranger.

Lower School 

Pre-K3, Pre-K4

I asked the children some questions to help us discuss Mary and the church. Then the children worked on building a gingerbread house on ABCYA.com. They chose window, doors, and other extras to make their house. This helps the children to practice using a mouse and they enjoyed it.
 
Kindergarten

We talked about Mary and who she was. Then we went onto Keyboarding Zoo, on ABCYA.com. In this game, you type the letter by the actual letter or by the sound of the letter. The animals make it a fun way to learn the keyboard.

I told the first graders about the crowning of Mary. I read a short story called “Love Forever”. Then they keyed in the Hail Mary prayer. Most students did a wonderful job.

Week of April 23 - 27, 2018

Lower School 

Pre-K3, Pre-K4

The children worked on ‘Alphabet Bubble’ on ABCYA.com. This game asks students to pop a bubble with a letter on it, and drop it in the box that has a word starting with that letter. It helps them with learning the alphabet.

Kindergarten

The children worked on Typing Rocket, Jr., on ABCYA.com. In this game, you type the letter on the rockets to make them explode. It is a fun way to learn the keyboard.
Grade 1

First-graders chose an animal to look up on the Internet. Then they read some facts about their animal. They copied and pasted the animal into WordPad, and saved the file. Then they printed it out. It was fun to see what their favorite animals were.
                                                                       

Grade 2

Second graders worked on animal research. They chose an animal that they were curious about and went to the Internet to get facts about their animal.
I taught them to do bullets for their facts. Then they saved the file and printed it.
                                                                     

Grade 3

Third graders worked on animal research. They chose their favorite animal and went to the Internet to get 5 facts about their animal. They used bullets to show their information in WordPad. Then they saved their file and printed it.

Grade 4

Fourth graders worked on animal research. They chose an animal to research. They found 10 facts about their animal and formatted it into WordPad, using bullets. After that, they saved their file and printed it. For example:

·         Tigers eat…
·         Tigers live in…
·         Tigers sleep…






           











Upper School   

Grades 5-8   

The children chose a country that they would like to explore, and continued their PowerPoint presentation about it. They are researching on the Internet and answering questions. This week is Part Two (of Two) for this project.
