Week of April 16 – 20, 2018

Lower School 

Pre-K3, Pre-K4

The children used ABCYA.com to practice using the mouse. They worked on Fuzzbugs, a sorting game on ABCYA.com.

Kindergarten

The children are learning to use the keyboard. They typed their name on the desktop computers and changed the color and the font size. Then they went to try Fuzzbugs, a sorting game on ABCYA.com.
   
Grade 1

The children learned what an acrostic poem is. They typed a poem using the word ‘Spring’. This was a little difficult for them, so I’m proud of them for trying it!

Grade 2

The children typed an acrostic poem. They used the word ‘Spring’ and wrote words to describe this time of the year.

               
Grade 3

The children wrote an acrostic poem about Spring. Then they went to the Internet, to openclipart.org, to search for an appropriate picture. They copied and pasted the picture to their poem on WordPad. They saved their file.

Sunshine lasts longer.
Plants start to bloom.
Rain comes down in April.

I love Springtime.
Nectar for the bees.
Gardening is fun.


Grade 4

The children wrote an acrostic poem about Spring. Then they went to the Internet, to openclipart.org, to search for an appropriate picture. They copied and pasted the picture to their poem on WordPad. They saved their file.


Upper School   

Grades 5-8   

The children will choose a city and a country that they would like to explore, and start a PowerPoint presentation about it. They will research on the Internet and answer questions about their country and why they chose this country.

Lower School 

Pre-K3, Pre-K4
The children used the desktop computers first, then the IPad. They worked on ABCYA.com, the Monster Mansion Match game.                                            


Kindergarten
The children are learning to use the keyboard. They used ABCYA.com, Keyboard Zoo and Keyboard Zoo 2.          

Grade 1
The children are learning to use the keyboard. They used ABCYA.com, Typing Rocket, Jr.
                             
Grade 2
The children are learning to use the keyboard. They went to Google and keyed in ‘Typing.com’. They are learning what ‘wpm’ stands for, (words per minute). They will understand that it is good to try to make this number go up, so you will be able to type more words per minute. They will understand the word ‘accuracy’ and that it is important to be accurate.

Grade 3
The children are using the keyboard and saving their statistics. They will compare them to keyboarding statistics that they took last month, to see if they have improved

The children are using the keyboard and saving their statistics. They will compare them to keyboarding statistics that they took last month, to see if they have improved

The children learned about St. Patrick. Then they went to ‘Sheppardsoftware.com’ and clicked on the ‘Pre-K’ section. They played an animal game where you create an animal farm, choosing the animals you want on your farm. This helps the children to use the mouse.

Kindergarten
The children learned about St. Patrick. Then they went to ‘Sheppardsoftware.com’ and clicked on the Kindergarten section. They played an animal game where you create an animal farm, choosing the animals you want on your farm. This helps the children to use the mouse.




Grade 1
The children learned about St. Patrick. Then they went to the website, Sheppardsoftware.com, and clicked on the ‘Earth Day’ activities. There they could choose ‘Painting’ or ‘Memory Games’ to try.

Grade 2
The children learned about St. Patrick. Then they went on Word pad to create a card for their family. They clicked on ‘Google’ and typed in ‘St. Patrick’s Day for kids’ and clicked on ‘Images’ to find a picture that they liked to go on their cards.

Grade 3
The children are learning about St. Patrick and the Irish famine. They will see a quick video on the history of Ireland. Then they will go to ‘Google’ and search for an image that they like. They will create a card for their families, using this image that they chose.

Grade 4
The children are learning about St. Patrick and the Irish famine. They will see a quick video on the history of Ireland. Then they will create a card for their families. They will choose an image from the Internet and copy and paste it to their card.
  

Upper School   

Grades 5-8               
The children are learning about Ireland and St. Patrick. They will watch an excerpt from the ‘Out of Ireland’ documentary, explaining why so many Irish people came to the United States in the 1800’s. They will answer questions and create a PowerPoint presentation to display their data.

Lower School

Children are learning about the flu and how to prevent it. The most important thing is to wash your hands.
They also are using ABCYA.com to learn alphabetical order.                                                                                                                                  
Kindergarten

The children are learning about the flu and how to prevent it. The most important thing is to wash your hands and get rest every night.
They also are learning to use the keyboard by playing a game on ABCYA.com, called Cup Stack Typing.             


Grade 1

The children are learning about the flu and how to prevent it. The most important thing is to wash your hands and get rest every night.

They will also research some questions about why Daylight Saving Time continues past Halloween now, to protect our children from traffic accidents in the dark.

Lower School

Children are working on Alphabet Sorting and Alphabet Bubble in ABCYA.com.
This helps them to recognize their letters and get used to using a mouse.   


 Kindergarten

Children are practicing keyboarding by using a program on ABCYA.com, Keyboarding Zoo.
It is a fun way to learn the letters on the keyboard. 

Grade 1

The children are practicing addition and subtraction skills using CoolMath4Kids.com. It has no violence, and no empty action, and is written by a math teacher. The website has games that engage the children and help them to learn math.

 Grade 2

The children are using CoolMath4Kids.com, set up by a math teacher, to practice addition and subtraction skills. It has games that engage the children and help them to learn math.
  
Grade 3

The children are using CoolMath4Kids.com to practice multiplying and dividing. The website has games that make math fun.
  
Grade 4

The children are writing a letter to their parents to thank them for enrolling them in a catholic school. They will include what they like about our school, and why it is special.
Then they will key it into the word processing program.
Upper School                   

Grades 5-8

The children are editing and keying in their letter to their parents to thank them for enrolling them in a catholic school. They included what they like about our school, and why it is special.

Children are working on Sesamestreet.org to draw and color pictures. This helps them get used to using the mouse.
  
Kindergarten

Children are practicing word processing. They can find a picture of an angel that they like on the Internet, and copy and paste it into their file.

Grade 1

The children are working on word processing. They are practicing by keying in a prayer to the Guardia Angel. Then they may choose a picture of an angel from the Internet, to copy and paste into their document

Grade 2 - Grade 3

The children are practicing word processing by keying in a prayer to their Guardian angel. Then they can find an angel picture that they like from the Internet, and copy and paste it into their file.

Grade 4

The children will write a letter to their parents to thank them for enrolling them in a catholic school. They will include what they like about our school, and why it is special.

Upper School                       

Grades 5-8

Lower School

Children are working on Alphabet Sorting in the Preschool Skills section of ABCYA.com. This game gives them practice in recognizing their letter. It also helps them to know which letters come first, second, third, etc.

Kindergarten, Grade 1

The children are working on word processing. They are practicing typing their name into a file and changing the font size and color. They are also learning some new vocabulary, such as ‘font’.

Grade 2 - Grade 4

The children are practicing keyboarding using various games on ABCYA.com, under the ‘Skills’ section.

Upper School                       

Grades 5-8

Students will learn how to make a bar chart in Excel. They will design a spreadsheet about class pets.
